Otoplasty is a surgical procedure designed to pull the ears closer to the head, it does not decrease the size of the ear itself. Otoplasty is a common procedure amongst adults and children who perceive to have larger or protruding ears.
Sculpt is experienced with Otoplasty. The surgery is usually performed using a local with a sedative. With “Bat Ear” correction, a football-shaped incision is made in the crease behind the ear, some skin is removed, and the cartilage is exposed. The most commonly used otoplasty technique involves using sutures that holds the cartilage in place and helps bring the top part of the ear closer to the head.
Some of the cartilage will be removed and the incision is closed. The ears are then covered with a dressing. Generally, the entire cosmetic ear surgery procedure should take an hour and a half.
An otoplasty patient should be able to return home the same day. Bandages will be replaced with a lighter dressing a few days after the surgery, and external stitches will be removed within a week. It is advisable to wear a tennis head band for six weeks although, due to pressures of school or work, it may only be possible to wear the head band at night.
You should be up and about on the day of ear surgery, but take it easy for the first week. You should be able to return to work or school five to six days after surgery. Any pain can be easily controlled by medication. After the surgery, you may experience some mild discomfort around the ear – this is normal. If you are accustomed to sleeping on your side, your sleep may be disrupted while your ears are healing. It is important not to place pressure on these areas for a week or so after surgery.
The typical cost of otoplasty procedure will be $5,900*
*These are typical costs, for the average person it should not change. However, every patient is different, these prices may change per patient scenario.
