Upper Blepharoplasty (eyelid tuck)

Upper Blepharoplasty (eyelid tuck)

Eyes are the windows to your heart and soul.

Eyes are often the first feature to show signs of age. Wrinkly, droopy eyelid skin can form at a relatively young age; sagging eyebrows add to the effect, giving the entire face a tired, sad look.

Blepharoplasty will open up your eyes, and give a refreshed and bright look around the eyes. Blepharoplasty can be performed on your upper or lower eyelids. In the upper eyelids, Blepharoplasty will remove excess tissue which may include skin, muscle, and fat.

The incisions are mostly hidden in the eyelid crease except the outer most part of the incisions. A small piece of tape may be applied post-operatively. Upper eyelid surgery can be done with local only, or with sedation (oral, inhalers, or intramuscular) if desired. The stitches will need to be removed in 4-7 days.

A Blepharoplasty does not correct sagging eyebrows. A brow lift is required to elevate the eyebrows. Your doctor will assess you during the consultation and advise if a brow lift is necessary.

Blepharoplasty is not for children, or people who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Certain diseases and medications will preclude patients from undergoing Blepharoplasty.

Blepharoplasty can be used with other measures such as skin care products, sun protection, laser, anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers to achieve the best result. The patient will be evaluated with history and examination prior to the treatment to determine suitability for the procedure.

In some cases, patients may suffer side effects such as bruising, swelling and redness after the procedure, however this will subside with time. Your doctor will be able to discuss with you the various risks that have been associated with the procedure in more rare cases. If you find that any pain persists following your procedure, contact us immediately and one of our experienced team will be able to perform a proper assessment.

Persistent fat pads may need further reduction after 3 months. Excessive fat reduction may be corrected by fat transfer. You should take about 1 week off work due to swelling and bruising. Bruising and swelling will resolve in 1-2 weeks. Contact lenses and make up may be worn after 1 week. Antibiotics, eye ointment, and analgesia will be prescribed.

No heavy lifting or strenuous activities is allowed for 2 weeks. No water should be placed on your eyelids for 48 hours. You may shower but not wash the eyes for 1 week.
